AAI Supports the Nomination of Dr. Erica Schwartz as CDC Director

President of the American Association of Immunologists, Dr. Avery August, issued the following statement in support of the nomination of Dr. Erica Schwartz as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) welcomes the nomination of Dr. Erica Schwartz to serve as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

At a time when the nation faces significant public health challenges, strong scientific leadership at the CDC is essential. Dr. Erica Schwartz brings an impressive combination of clinical expertise, public health experience, and proven leadership. Her track record of leading disease surveillance and vaccination programs reflects a longstanding commitment to disease prevention, public service, and protecting the health of communities across the United States.

The CDC plays a vital role in our nation’s public health infrastructure, from health threat monitoring and outbreak response to immunization programs and public health preparedness. AAI looks forward to working with Dr. Schwartz, if confirmed, to advance science-based policies that protect the health of all people. We urge the Senate to move expeditiously to consider and confirm her nomination.
