AAI’s Immunology Explained is on a mission to encourage as many people as possible to get their annual flu vaccine and other vaccines ahead of respiratory disease season—and we need your help!
As immunologists and scientists, we know the importance of staying up to date on vaccines, but people still have questions and concerns. Help AAI raise awareness and educate the public by sharing your “why I got vaccinated” this season on social media.
Here’s how you can get involved.
Taking Your Photo
At your vaccine appointment, take a photo of you getting your vaccine or afterwards with your Band-Aid showing. The photo can be at the clinic or once you get home. Have fun with it—selfies are more than welcome. An example is below:

Sharing Your Why
For your caption, share why you get the flu vaccine (or others) as an immunologist. Answer the prompt, “As an immunologist, I get my ____ vaccine because…”
When sharing on your personal account with friends and family, remember to keep things easy to understand. If you are sharing the science behind vaccines, explain any scientific topics as clearly as possible and make topics relevant to the public by relating to your own interests. For examples on how to talk about vaccines, check out ImmunologyExplained.org.
An example is below:
“As an immunologist, I get my flu vaccine because it offers protection for myself and my family. Staying healthy this winter, means I can spend more time with my friends and family doing the things we love, like skiing!”
