Following the recent approval of updated bylaws by AAI voting members, AAI is moving forward with a modernized governance structure designed to strengthen leadership, clarify roles, and—most importantly—create new opportunities for members to engage and contribute to AAI’s mission.
The new governance model reflects months of careful review by the Governance Review Task Force, Council deliberation, and member input. Together, these changes are intended to ensure that AAI remains responsive, inclusive, and well positioned to support the evolving needs of the immunology community—now and into the future.
Introducing Core Committees: New Ways to Get Involved
A central feature of the new governance structure is the introduction of Core Committees, which will serve as the backbone of AAI’s committee portfolio beginning in the 2026–27 term. These committees align directly with AAI’s strategic priorities and are designed to support more meaningful and impactful member engagement.
Three new Core Committees are being launched as part of this transition:
- Belonging & Engagement Core Committee (BECC) – Focused on ensuring that AAI is a welcoming organization and that membership, volunteer roles, and leadership reflect the breadth of the immunology community.
- Career Development Core Committee (CDCC) – Dedicated to supporting immunologists across career stages by overseeing and evolving AAI’s career development programs.
- Science & Education Core Committee (SECC) – Charged with overseeing AAI’s scientific and educational programming beyond the Annual Meeting, including courses, webinars, and outreach initiatives.
Information on all of AAI’s committees can be found on our website.
Members Are at the Center of What Comes Next
The adoption of the new bylaws marks just the beginning of this work. Member participation will remain essential as the governance model evolves and leadership pipelines are strengthened.
To encourage broad participation, the deadline to submit an AAI Volunteer Interest Form for 2026 committee service has been extended to April 24, 2026. Members at all career stages and from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply and help shape AAI’s future through volunteer service.
AAI’s strength has always come from its members. This new governance structure is designed to make it easier—and more rewarding—for members to lend their voices, expertise, and leadership to AAI and to the field of immunology.
